As the name implies, the monthly meetings take place once a month, usually the third Monday. They take place between 10.00 a.m. and 12 noon and for the convenience of members spread across a wide rural area, alternate between Portscatho and Probus. In even numbered months they are held at Gerrans Parish Memorial Hall, Portscatho (location map) and in odd numbered months, at Probus Village Hall (location map).

The main purpose of these meetings is so that we may chat and socialise, and get to know one another better as this is a very important part of the U3A movement. Refreshments are served from 10.00 am to 10.45 am, and then ‘business’ is announced for a few minutes. Usually, a speaker addresses us with his or her favourite subject.

Because the University of the Third Age is a self-help group, we welcome help with setting out chairs and tables, and also for serving coffees and teas. By helping out periodically, no one is asked to do too much and, as the saying goes, ‘Many hands make light work’ and this is particularly true when preparing for the monthly meetings.

Forthcoming dates, location and meeting topic

20th September Probus Travellers Tales - Malcolm Craven
18th October Portscatho Truro Library Project - Ian Banks
15th November Probus Guide Dogs for the Blind

Speakers  have now been booked for the start of 2010 but U3A Roseland and District is continually seeking people to address us so that we may develop our interests.

If you would like to be our guest speaker please contact Shirley Davis by clicking here. There is no monetary reward, just the satisfaction of giving pleasure to other people.

Occasionally, there will not be a speaker as members might prefer to hold an arts and craft morning, or a fun(d) raising event. All activities will be published on this website. Variety is what we are after, and your ideas and suggestions are welcome. Thank you.
