*****Introduction to Computers*****

This course is to teach people a range of basic computer skills that are both practical and useful, such as: writing letters ; using email and the internet; accessing local services (eg: buses, trains, libraries, amenities); booking holidays; tracing your family history; staying in touch with family and friends overseas, and researching key resources such as state benefits, council tax refunds and winter fuel allowances.

Just a couple of hours every two weeks for a few months could change your life. The courses are be open to U3A members only at no extra charge, and any adult can join.

We have already run three successful courses at Probus Junior School (just down the road from Junk and Disorderly on the opposite side of the road) and another very basic course will run on the first and third Saturday of the month starting 6th September. There will be seven sessions from 10.00 a.m. to 12 noon. Please note that in October, the dates will be the 11th and 18th.

The Third Age Trust has made available a very useful book titled 'Computer Basics for Seniors - a Beginners Introduction to Computers and the Internet' which a number of members have already found easy to follow. Copies are available at a cost of £6.00.

*****Computer Literacy*****

This 8 week course is designed for those who already have some basic computer skills to help them take their knowledge and ability a little further. Don't worry, it will still be keeping things straightforward and you won't need to be a 'boffin' to understand what's going on!

The course will be led by a professional tutor and there will be a simple test at the end of it so you can check how well you have go on.

It will run at Probus Junior School, commencing Thursday 11th September from 3.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. and weekly thereafter for another 7 sessions.

Naturally there is no charge for U3A Roseland and District members.

*****Microsoft PowerPoint*****

We are considering running a course to provide basic skills in using Microsoft's PowerPoint application in order to create slide presentations if there is enough interest. The course would be professionally led and open to members who have passed the Computer Literacy course or can demonstrate an equivalent level of computer skills.

Don't worry if you don't have PowerPoint on your own computer. We can show you how to get a free program which has all the same basic features.
